The Underdog filmprize for
filmmakers from underdevelopment countries
The Underdog is a new filmprize for independent filmmakers from the
south and will be introduced at the Brazil edition of the Camera Mundo
filmfestival end of april in Rotterdam. There are three categories in
which a filmmaker can win a prize. Those are the best short film and
the best large film voted for by the audience and the encouraging prize
for the most promising underdog of the festival. For this encouraging
prize
the official Camera Mundo jury will look at the quality of the film,
the social message and the background
of the filmmaker.
The underdog was invented by the artist Bram Esser and symbolizes the
bottom up approach on which the camera mundo filmfestival focuses. A
streetdog on a pile of rubbish does not only know how to survive with
almost nothing but, in the imagination of the artist, also finds beauty
in the gutter.
